Thursday, September 16 at 7pm - Meet D.E. Johnson, author of The Detroit Electric Scheme, at the Portage District Library, 300 Library Lane. Johnson's debut mystery is a fast-paced, detail-filled ride through early-1900s Detroit, involving murder, blackmail, organized crime, the development of a wonderful friendship, and the inside story on early electric automobiles. Thursday, September 16 at 6:30pm - Jian Ping, author of Mulberry Child: A Memoir of China, will speak about her family's struggle to survive China's Cultural Revolution. She is the daughter of a high-ranking government official accused of treason. Based on her own memories, as well as interviews and research, her book is a family saga and a tale of resilience. We'll have copies of her memoir for sale and signing. Please join us!
Friday, September 17 at 5:30pm - Join us to hear Mel Visser discuss his new book, The Climate Trap: A Perilous Tripping of Earth's Natural Freeze Protection System. A chemical environmental engineer, Mel's first book was Cold, Clear, and Deadly: Unraveling a Toxic Legacy, about his search for the source of PCBs and pesticides to Lake Superior and the Arctic. We'll have copies of both books for Mel to sign.
Saturday, September 18, 3 -5 pm - "When Did Fangs Become Sexy?" An Afternoon of Paranormal Romance. Join us at the Portage District Library for a panel discussion, reception and book signing with authors Nancy Gideon, Laurie Kuna, Lisa Childs, Arianna Skye, Ruth Ryan Langan and cover artist Patricia Lazarus. Everyone interested in the art and business of successfully writing paranormal romances is invited to this free event. Sunday, September 19, 11:30am - 6:30pm - Kazoo Books will be selling books at Harvest Fest, held at Tillers International, 10515 East OP Avenue in Scotts. Author Richard Heinberg will be speaking at 2–3:30pm in the Museum Building and we'll have copies of his books for signing.
