Recent Change to Our Trade In Policy

Much of our inventory of used books comes from you, our customers.  We give credit for books that we need, in good condition.  Credits can be used at both of our stores.

We are now allowing our customers to use part of their credit for bringing in used books on new books and new book orders.

As always, credit can be used for any used books in the stores, including books we list for sale on the Internet.  Sales tax on these purchases must be paid in cash.  Now, however, you can used your credit for half the cost of a new book.  (We usually discount new book s in the store, or when special ordered, but when using your credit for half the cost, the full retail price will be charged).

July 2010---Donna recommends:

Hi all! Summer is here and everywhere you look nature is blooming. One of the pleasures of summer is the abundance of colors and the immersion in  scents from the trees and flowers, the warmth and quiet burn of the sun on your skin, and the frenetic hmm and bzzz  of the little critters above our heads and below our feet.

For young readers interested in learning about the fascinating life and creatures around us, Kazoo books has several terrific books which offer a glimpse into the secret lives and worlds of insects and spiders.

From the I Can Read Science Library we have Creepy Crawlies from A to Z, an alphabet book of the creepy and crawly which is really cool and scary.

On the same theme: Everything You Want to Know About Creepy Crawlies by Flying Frog Publishing—in a mini encyclopedic format for readers from 1st to 5th Grade.

Eye Openers: Insects and Crawly Creatures. Has very simple text and detailed and beautiful illustrations for preschoolers. Each segment has a photo and the detailed drawings focus on what makes each insect unique and wonderful—wonderfully executed!

One of my favorites is published by Scholastic: Icky Bug Shapes by Jerry Pallotta. Wonderfully colored and beautifully illustrated, each page focuses on different shapes like ovals and triangles and how the insects embody them.

Lastly, we have the Scary Creatures series also published by Scholastic. Each books features spectacular artwork, stunning photographs, and special see-through pages requiring x-ray vision to see the secrets contained within! How cool is that!! The critters featured are Polar Bears, Killer Whales, Lizards, and Creatures of the Night!

Our fabulous Children’s Room in the Annex on Parkview has these great books plus many, many others! Come visit us and let’s go on a journey together! Have a Happy Summer!!

Recent arrivals to both stores:

We recently took in a collection of Georgette Heyer romances and mysteries. Her work is being republished by Sourcebook Casablanca and that means people are willing to give up their "keeper" copies of this beloved author. She wrote mysteries at the same time as Ngaio Marsh and Agatha Christie. So if you love mysteries from the 1920s and 1930s, check these out.

Fans of historical romances (especially Regency period) may know that she is credited with creating this genre. These are character driven romances that are very reminiscent of Jane Austen. Heyer was known for clever plots with fully developed characters.
